Best ice cream in Prague

Summer is back and the ice cream season is here. The Czechs love ice cream, but sincerely, comparing to other European countries to find a really good one it has been lately quite a problem. I must say that I personally did not eat ice cream too much. The reason was that there simply had not existed the ice cream that I really liked - except one that I slightly remember from my childhood. They sold it by Orlik Castle where we used to go for a trip with my family and it had creamy vanilla pudding taste. My good experience with ice cream was therefore limited on my visits abroad (I mean towards West). I still remember my first ice cream there – it was in Munich, Germany, I was 10 years old and I picked up a cherry flavor.  I was really surprised by two things – firstly by its taste (with real pieces of fruit!!!) and also by its size (not just extra mini scoop as back home). And I am not talking about my first meeting with the real pistachio ice cream in Italy (I was always afraid to try in Czech R. due to its very, but very green color). But back to present days. The situation with ice cream became much, much better, you can find places with really tasty and good quality ice cream. Here we go with tips for, according to our opinion, the best ice cream places in the city.

ANGELATO
Absolutely our most favorite place. Located between Wenceslas and Old Town Squares, Angelato it is a family business that produces ice cream according to traditional Italian recipes. You can choose from a large variety of creamy gelato or refreshing fruit sorbets. They also have its unique edition of ice creams with unusual flavors such as asparagus, beetroot, or sesame. In Angelato, they use only fresh ingredients, the actual selection of flavors is influenced by seasonal production (Angelato is closed for winter) and they have every month different menu of flavors. If you like to take ice cream home, no problem, always smiling staff will serve it into the special cold-boxes for you. And if you like the pistachio ice cream, we think, this is the best and only place in Prague where to get it. It just tastes like in Italy.
Address: Rytirska 27, Prague 1
Price range: 30 – 40 CZK per ???
CREAM AND DREAM
If we are craving for the chocolate ice cream, we head directly to this small gelateria in Husova street close to Narodni trida. One scoop fully satisfies our chocolate deficit for a long time. From its taste you can recognize that it is made of very good quality chocolate with high percentage of cocoa. One scoop costs a bit more than in other places but it is worth a visit. Besides this chocolate dream, you can choose from many other flavors or have a nice sundae.
Address: Husova 12, Prague 1
Price range: 40 – 45 CZK
OVOCNY SVETOZOR
It is a classic. Sweet shop in passage Svetozor next to the Wenceslas Square has been existing already 22 long years, earlier from the 70´s there was very popular delicatessen shop. Besides ice cream, Ovocny Svetozor attracts by its traditional chlebicek(s) and large offer of pies and cakes. The locals love it there, it’s hard to find a time during the day without the queue. Besides ice cream selection the best and most popular is the swirled strawberry-banana ice cream. It is classic of classics. However, we recommend avoiding other flavors - especially creamy ones are not that good, some having a bit artificial taste.
Address: Passage Svetozor, Vodickova 39, Prague 1
Price range: 20 – 30 CZK
