We visited Amsterdam for the first time this October and we really enjoyed it. We liked the relaxed atmosphere, architecture, canals and locals´ life on bikes. The city has also interesting gastronomic scene and traditional goodies are worth tasting. During our short stay, we were thus riding bikes and eating only and although we had only 3 days, we have discovered few very nice places where to eat. So if you plan to visit Amsterdam, here are our few tips on great foodie places (according to us, for sure).

Sometimes, we have a feeling that we have already found our favorite restaurants in Prague, returning there quite often for our popular meals and think that there can not be any other better place. How foolish we are… Our visit of Atelier Red & Wine restaurant has changed our ranking of the best restaurants in Prague! :-)

We have few our favorite places where to get the best breakfast in Prague and we are happy to share them with you:

Couple days ago, we visited restaurant Na Kopci – Prague restaurant awarded by Michelin Main Cities of Europe 2015 with Michelin Bib Gourmand 2015. That is an awards for the restaurants offering the great menu for reasonable prices. We used the family celebration to prove it and were not disappointed at all! Actually, we were amazed by everything we had ordered.

Czech Republic is „meat“ country that is known. The locals love meat of all kinds and big majority of traditional Czech recipes is meat base. Some people must have meat in every meal and I remember my grandfather always saying “the meal without meat is not real meal”. :-) However, things and habits are changing and more and more people switch to healthier alternative ways of diet, either eating meat just few times per week or shifting to vegetarian, vegan or even raw food from any reason.
Especially the latter is quite new in our country and more raw restaurants or bistros are appearing in Prague or in other cities. Even though we personally do not follow raw principles and eat reasonably more or less everything, we like to try something new and exceptional and visit time to time raw restaurants. Especially raw sunburger from Secret of Raw is our favorite. So, be raw food your everyday life or just unusual diet variety like for us, in this article, you will find our tips for raw food places in Prague.

Czechs are beer nation – that is no new information :-) Besides more or less worldwide famous Czech brands we like to also explore unusual original tastes of beers from microbreweries. Did you know that in our small country we have around 280 of these micro businesses? Yes, 280! And only last year, new 50 microbreweries were established. It is simply current trend and many Czech men (usually mem :-)) fulfill their dreams by having their own brewery. To taste all “micro beers” is almost impossible as beers are usually intended only for local (regional) market and you can get them in towns or villages nearby the brewery or just at brewery´s pub or bar itself. But you will have a chance to taste at least 70 of “micro beers” if you visit the Festival of microbreweries that will take place on Prague Castle on June 12th and 13th

You can get more information about the festival here

Pivovar Matuška
Unětický pivovar
Kocour pivovar Varndorf
Břevnov Monastery pivovar
Novoměstký pivovar Praha

As we wrote, we have not tried all of these beers but bellow you can find our favorites (pivovar = brewery):

PURO Gelato is quite new ice cream place located just next to Prague river bank Náplavka and offers nice selection of traditional (we must recommend their chocolate with raspberry) and untraditional flavors (we tasted carrot or basil). PURO´s owner studied "Gelato school" in Italy - in the country with best gelato in the world! Her production is based on traditional gelato manufacture and uses only "pure" ingredients - without any chemical additives. Although we did not have a chance to taste all flavors on the menu that day (in late afternoon they were almost sold out), we think it place will be a nice alternative to our favorite Angelato - our favorite place to sin with pistachio or mango ice cream.

For us - conclusively the best Czech restaurant in Vinohrady district (Prague 2) is Vinohradský Parlament! They prepare Czech dishes according to traditional and modern recipes, all from fresh local farmer’s products. They have special small portions menu, so you can try more Czech dishes at once. We highly recommend beef cheeks with parsnip purée or roasted pork pieces served with potato purée. And of course, they serve refreshing draft Staropramen beer!

Have you ever had „Talian“ sausage? You definitely should try! :-) This specialty has its origin at the end of 19th century when Italian butcher named Uggé started to produce this un-smoked - but cooked – sausage in Old Prague Town. People started to call the sausage “grass snake” or “Talian” - according to its “Italian” inventor. The second name has been preserved until these days. The sausage is very fine, made of both pork and beef meat with combination of spices. To try the best “talians” go to all Lokal restaurants (see the list).

Compared to many European countries, emergency healthcare in the Czech Republic is expensive and often requires foreigners to pay up front before treatment. Tourists that choose not to get medical insurance before arriving and “hope for the best” often regret not having coverage when an unexpected accident or illness occurs.

Before leaving home, consider purchasing affordable coverage such as Atlas Travel® medical insurance. A travel medical plan is necessary and will cover health expenses while traveling outside your home country. Atlas Travel insurance includes:

Foreign tourists like to have a walk from National Theater along the river bank towards to Vysehrad rock. There, they usually turn and go back, but do not be afraid to keep walking – you will get to the nice Prague district Podolí. Podolí is part of Prague 4 and is becoming very popular for Prague residents where to spend their leisure time. Besides sports activities such as biking, roller skating and water sports, Podolí offers some nice foodie places that the locals love. One of them is restaurant Podolka with a beautiful view on the river (located in the local Yacht club).

Autumn is back with its unpleasant weather and that is time to warm yourself by some good soup. Czechs love soups and last 6 years, you can see a big boom of “soup places” in Prague. Also, in almost every café, they offer at least one kind of soup during lunch. Here are our three favorite places where to get the best soups in Prague.
